Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays!

Finals week is here and winter break is just around the corner. That means the team will soon be on their way to Port Orange and Daytona Beach Florida for their winter training trip.
While winter break no longer means a trip to Florida for most of us, it is the perfect time to reminisce. Nineteen hours in the van with your closest friends, double practices, the Port Orange YMCA...so many memories! Please share your favorite Florida memories in the comments section (please keep it clean).

We wish you and your families a very happy holiday season!

I have two favorite memories:

First was the year that I had a sinus infection right before the trip. Because it was winter in PA, the pharmacy didn't put a warning lable on my medicine saying "stay out of the sun." On the second or third day of practice, I was so burnt that coach sent me to the hospital. I had sun poisioning and had to stay out of the sun for two days...to make matters worse, because of my goggle lines, I looked like Dark Wing Duck. Everywhere we went, people stared because I looked awful.

My second favorite memory is when Lisa Prylucki found a bug in her hotel room bed. After screaming for a minute, she called the front desk and said, "you don't understand, there is a bug in my bed". The hotel people didn't think it was a big deal, but it was hilarious!

My favorite clean Florida memory is when I was "coaching" during my fifth year and ran to the pool every afternnon. One afternoon Cliff decided it would be a good idea for him to join me and then swim his work out. Needless to say Coach King had planned for cliff to swim a ridiculous IM work out (which was to be his hardest of the trip. Needless to say, old grease foot Moffit was not up to the task after the 5 mile run.....

What a great question!

It really brought back a lot of great memories for me. 10 years of 20 hour van rides, crazy meets at Rollins, hospital visits, The Ode to Clarence Hirst, The Farewell to Florida, Heather Towne's near NCAA-qualifying 400 IMs, BUMS basketball.
I have a ton, but my all-time favorite would have to be the 12 year old British kid at Wet & Wild that kept trying to get the guys to buy him cigarettes with the very british and unforgetable phrase " can any of you chaps pimp me a pack of fags"
Needless to say the gang from central PA absolutely lost it. The kid finely succeeded in scoring some cigs from a group of very scantily clad Brazilian teen age girls that had trouble staying in their bikinis while riding the big drop water slides. Mix this with eating at the World's Largest McDonalds and you have one for the history books.
