Year End Tax Deductions and Giving to Bloom

Because I'm an accountant, I'm going to make a one-time public service announcement for the good of the team.

For those looking for a year-end tax deduction, there has been a temporary increase in allowable charitable contributions. The Hurricane Katrina Relief Bill has resulted in changes to the tax law in an effort to encourage overall giving. You need not donate to a Katrina related charity in order to take advantage of the benefits of the new Bill. For information on the bill, please see http://www.pgcalc.com/news/reliefbill.htm

If you would like to take advantage of these measures, you can make a tax deductible gift to the team via the Bloomsburg University Foundation. By designating your gift to HUSKY TRUST- WOMEN'S SWIMMING or HUSKY TRUST- MEN'S SWIMMING, your tax-deductible donation will directly benefit the team.

If you're interested in taking advantage, you may use the following mailing address:
The Bloomsburg University Foundation, Inc.
400 East Second Street
Bloomsburg, PA 17815

Or, you may call the Foundation and make your gift over the phone, during business hours, using your Visa or MasterCard. The telephone numbers are 570-389-4128 or 1-800-526-0254.

The BU Foundation also has a secure website (http://www.bloomu.edu/giving/), but it is not possible to designate your gift to the team via the web. The website, however, does contain valuable information about giving to Bloomsburg University.

If you are someone who itimizes their deductions, making such a gift helps both you and the University. Many companies also have matching-gift programs that can also be used to help the University. As you think about year-end tax planning, please keep Bloomsburg and the Swim Team in mind.
